Friday's TPM Daily Dozen (October 4, 2013)

Friday's TPM Daily Dozen (October 4, 2013)

Chart Chat Yesterday it looked like TPM Number One ROAR wouldn't make it to 24,000 TotalPlaysMonitored after all, with a small loss of -11. But what a difference a day makes! And after all, this is Katy Perry! Today +135, ROAR reaches 24,036. Three years after Katy set the TPM record for 21,000, she sets a new record, not that long after Robin Thicke's BLURRED LINES set two new highs -- first 22K and then 23,000 ... Our new runner-up (up Thursday 3-2), Lorde's ROYALS, +453, continues to look like a potential contender. In two days it's added 905 plays ... Down now 2-3, Capital Cities' SAFE AND SOUND should next slip 3-4, as Avicii's WAKE ME UP, +329, approaches a 4-3 advance with just 453 total plays to go ... Previously up 7-6 this week, Lady Gaga's APPLAUSE gets a clap for today's +129 ... Also with gains => HOLY GRAIL/Jay Z with Justin Timberlake, +130; and, Paramore's STILL INTO YOU, +121 ... What's with the flip-flop between numbers 10 and 11 today? ... And do we see a Drake about the enter the DD? (With a Majid, no less!) ... The Top 12 Songs of the Day, every day, from Total Popular Music!

Our exclusive Total Popular Music charts -- the weekly Super Sixty and our TPM Daily Dozen, as well as the weekly "Projections Monitor 30" -- offer an objective base for programming our exclusive all-ages TPM Mass Appeal Hit Music Radio Format. Ranks are determined from monitored airplay across the two main chart-influencing components of Total Popular Music -- CHR/Top 40 and Hot Adult (Hot AC/Adult Top 40) -- to afford the greatest strength to songs doing extremely well at both components, while not neglecting or omitting songs currently charting on only one of them.

The Daily Dozen is from our daily update of total airplay for the weekly TPM Super Sixty. The first 12 songs (or sometimes 13) represent the "Power" rotation titles for the Total Popular Music format from Mark Harris and MHBC, utilized for programming radio stations subscribing to the format. Those stations also air a daily countdown of the "Top 12 at 12" -- both Midnight and Noon.

While our TPMusic Charts are primarily intended for programming our TPM Mass Appeal Hit Music Radio Format, they are also valuable tools for Adult Top 40 stations and Mainstream Top 40s with an Adult/Pop emphasis, assisting in programming Today's Hit Music for an adult audience. Our exclusive TPMusic Charts offer Hot AC/Adult Top 40 program directors a tool for knowing when adults have accepted a CHR/Top 40 hit, as well as helping Top 40 Radio PDs identify songs that are crossing over from Hot Adult or are likely to do so.
