Uitlizing Our Exclusive TotalsProjectionsMonitor

This listing reflects projected total monitored airplay at the CHR-Top40 and Hot Adult components of Total Popular Music.

A  RED rank number indicates a projected airplay increase of 300 or more total plays.

Not an "indicator chart" nor a "building chart" -- and definitely not a chart "representing the collective opinion of the publication's editorial board in ranking the current potency of commercial recordings as competitive radio programming attractions" -- the TPM Projections Monitor is scientifically compiled utilizing our exclusive TotalsProjectionsMonitor™ software -- incorporating current airplay and trending data.

The "Projections Monitor 30" is published Sunday nights, to be available for Monday mornings. This listing from Mark Harris Broadcast Consulting is both a projection of what the Top 30 on the next week's Super Sixty might look like, and a proactive programming guide for the coming week for the Total Popular Music radio format. Songs expected or projected to move to TPM Recurrents the next week are removed from the Projections Monitor 30.

We remind our readers that we are not so much attempting to project exact airplay totals as relative positions for the next week based on current trending; and, that trending used for the PM30 is always subject to change. Thinking Out Loud

After an extended test run of 13 weeks, no final decision has been made about the future of the "Projections Monitor 30" -- whether it will become a permanent feature or not. However, we are continuing to publish it for an additional test period, likely until the end of the summer season (somewhere around Labor Day), at which time a final decision will be rendered.

Still being considered is the possibility of making it an "independent" chart with its own chart history -- i.e., the "last week" rank would be its previous PM30 position as opposed to that on the actual prior week Super Sixty, and the previous projected airplay would similarly replace the prior week's "actual" stats.

Another possibility that has been suggested to us (and is being considered) is to change our "Super Sixty Airplay" chart's stats listing system. Instead of TotalPlaysMonitored for TW and LW, we would only list "This Week" totals with the current "LW" column showing the airplay plus or minus stat. Should we make that change, it would also be adopted for the PM30 (projected airplay gain or loss) as well, regardless of whether the "Projections Monitor 30" otherwise continues in its current format or becomes an "independent" listing with its own chart history.

One other change that is being mulled that we haven't previously discussed publicly involves merging the main Super Sixty chart and the separate Super Sixty Airplay listing. To date, we haven't been able to create a single chart format that would incorporate all of what is now found on the two separate versions. Ultimately, we do expect a "merger" of the charts, with one of several possible revised formats that so far have been developed. Unfortunately, some current content features may be lost.

What do you think about these possible chart revisions? We would really like to hear from our readers -- both broadcasters and radio fans -- who are following Total Popular Music, at either our dot com website or at our "second home" at Blogger.

And, yes, we are still considering making our two Blogspot sites (for "Total Popular Music" and "MHBC Radio & Media News") our new "main home." However, there are a number of logistical concerns about such a move that have so far at least delayed it. If we do proceed in that manner, we envision TotalPopularMusic.com directly going to the TPM Blogger site with a direct link always provided to the MHBC Radio & Media News site at Blogspot (and the same two-way cross-promotion currently being used). We'd also like to hear from you about that possibility.
