Wednesday's TPM Daily Dozen (January 2, 2013)

As we go to a second day with dual Daily Dozen charts -- one each for the outgoing formula and the incoming methodology, we begin to note some ranking variations. But overall the most notable fact, by either system, is change of year airplay variations with newer songs seeing temporary decreased airplay while lingering top hits of 2012 see gains from stations spotlighting top songs of the year just ended. Corrections to "normalcy" should begin showing in the remaining days of the current chart week ... Regardless of all of this, Bruno Mars' LOCKED OUT OF HEAVEN continues domination of TPM Number One on both versions of Today's Twelve. LOCKED is 3042 total plays across our components ahead of runner-up HO HEY from The Lumineers on the outgoing "original formula" chart; and +3188 plays with the "new methodology" (which gives more weight to the Hot Adult component than does the original formula) ... Comparing the two versions, Ed Sheeran's THE A TEAM ranks one position higher on the "new" chart than the "original" version, while Flo Rida's I CRY is two spots lower on the "new" than on the "original" ... The new methodology charting takes over completely Friday (Jan. 4) after our three-day transitional period ...
